MESSAGE FROM DAZZ BROWN – COOKLEY RESIDENT
Cockley BMX cycling track offers a fun, safe space for all ages and abilities to enjoy a range of wheel-based activities including BMX bikes, scooters, skateboards and rollerblades.
My grandson Dom learned to ride on the Cockley BMX track and spent many hours, practicing his jumps and skills. After he tragically took his own life in 2020, aged only 16, our family wanted to leave a positive and lasting legacy in his memory. We installed a new roof on the BMX track hut and solar panels to power lights and a phone charger. Whilst repairing the hut, I was amazed by how much the track got used and how much enjoyment it provided to children and young persons of all ages. Unfortunately, the track needs resurfacing, otherwise this facility may no longer be available to its community of users.
In Dom’s memory, my family want to strengthen his legacy by repairing the track. Additionally, we want to increase accessibility for all, by providing BMX bikes to enable others to use the track. We simply want Cockley BMX track, to instil passion, make cycling more accessible and promote a mentally and physically healthy lifestyle to others.n order to realise our ambition, we need to raise £30,000. Keeping cycling at the forefront, I will be cycling from Lands End, on the 12th April 2024, reaching Cockley, on the 16th April 2024 to raise funds. This will be a personal challenge, as not being a cyclist, the route covers over 360 miles and I will be cycling a tandem!! Whilst I will be supported by friends during the ride, I need your help to reach my family’s goal of raising £30,000 to enable the repairs to be carried out this year.
